71st Junior National Basketball Championship: BFI announces groups for tournament

The 71st Junior Nationals tip-off on Jan. 4. 

The seven-day tournament will be held at the 'Basketball Complex' near Janjeerwala Chouraha, Race Course Road in Indore until Jan. 10. This edition comes nearly 26 months since the previous one was held at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna, Bihar.

In the previous edition, the Princepal Singh-led Punjab squad won the men's category while Kerala clinched the women's category. 

A day prior to the tournament's tip-off, the Basketball Federation of India released the groups. 

What are the groups for the 71st Junior Nationals? 

The competition consists of 26 teams in the women's category with the defending champions placed in Group A alongside Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan and hosts Madhya Pradesh. 

On the other hand, the men's category includes 27 teams with the defending champions slotted in Group A alongside Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Maharashtra and Delhi. 

As per the circular released BFI, regarding the age criteria, all players competing must be born on or after Jan. 1, 2003.
