The Chicago Bulls are waiving Carmelo Anthony, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, potentially paving the way for him to become an unrestricted free agent.

If Anthony clears waivers, the Los Angeles Lakers "remain a real possibility" to sign him, Wojnarowski adds.

The Bulls acquired Anthony from the Houston Rockets last month. Cash was included in the deal, as were the draft rights to Jon Diebler and Tadija Dragicevic.

Anthony was never expected to play in a game with the Bulls. The plan all along was to eventually find him a new home ahead of next week's trade deadline or waive him.

Anthony appeared in 10 games with the Rockets this season, posting averages of 13.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. He shot 40.5 percent from the field and 32.8 percent from the 3-point line.

Anthony was last named an All-Star in 2016-17, his final season with the New York Knicks.
