For the first time in weeks, we're beginning to see some definitive structure to the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

The Miami Heat suffered a costly loss to the Toronto Raptors to start Monday's slate of games and the Charlotte Hornets took advantage of their opportunity against the Detroit Pistons.

The Brooklyn Nets then pulled off a crucial victory on the road over the Indiana Pacers to secure their first playoff birth since 2014-15 – and by way of the Pacers' loss, the Boston Celtics have clinched home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

To cap off a hectic day in the conference, the Orlando magic defeated the Celtics to clinch a playoff spot, leaving three teams fighting for one final spot.

First five seeds are official

The Milwaukee Bucks secured the No.1 seed and home court advantage throughout the East playoffs following their win over the Philadelphia 76ers earlier this week, meaning the Raptors have locked up the No. 2 seed.

The Philadelphia 76ers have officially locked up the No. 3 seed with the Celtics' loss on Monday.

With that Celtics loss and the Nets' win in Indiana, the Celtics are locked into the No. 4 seed and are  guaranteed home court advantage in the first round as they hold the tiebreaker over the Pacers.

The first five seeds being set in stone, we already have one official first round matchup.

With the Heat, Hornets and Pistons all unable to move higher than the No. 8 seed, that means one of those three teams will take on the Bucks in Round 1.

That leaves the Raptors and 76ers with a guarantee to face off against either the Nets or the Magic.

Three teams, one spot

For the past few weeks its been five teams fighting for the final three spots.

With the Nets' road win, they have officially clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2015.

With the Magic's road win, they have also officially clinched a playoff spot.

That brings us to three teams fighting for the final spot, and we're beginning to get clarity in that situation.

The Heat's loss to the Raptors on Monday means they need a lot of things to fall their way to make the playoffs. They'll have to win out, need the Hornets to lose one of their final two games and need the Pistons to lose both of their last two games.

One Pistons win would eliminate the Heat from the playoffs due to Detroit and Charlotte owning tiebreakers over them.

They have two games remaining – a home game versus the 76ers in what could be Dwyane Wade's final game in Miami and a road game against the Nets.

The Hornets, who have strung together a three-game win streak with their backs against the wall, will need to win out and need the Pistons to drop one of their final two games to quailify for the playoffs. Charlotte owns the tiebreakers over both the Heat and Pistons.

The Hornets have two games remaining – a road game against the Cleveland Cavaliers and a home game against the Magic on the final day of the regular season. The final game against the Magic could very well end up being a play-in game for Charlotte.

The Pistons' loss to the Hornets extends their horribly-timed losing streak to four games. They control their own destiny with two easier games remaining.

With a home game against the Memphis Grizzlies and a road game against the New York Knicks, Detroit should have no issue winning both those contests to reach the postseason – but crazier things have happened.
