Over the course of this past weekend (September 6-8), in Male, Maldives, the FIBA 3x3 Asia Quest Final took place.

India was represented by the Punjab Steelers in the Men's division and the Kochi Stars in the Women's division. Here's a quick look at how both teams performed at the event:

Men's results:

The Steelers' roster consisted of Amjyot Singh, Amritpal Singh, Arshpreet Singh Bhullar and Rajvir Singh Aujla.

While Amjyot is India's No. 1 ranked 3x3 player in the FIBA rankings, the other three members of the Steelers squad were part of India's squad at the recent Red Bull Reign World Finals in Toronto.

Entering the tournament as the seventh seeds, they lost their opening game but bounced back to win their next two group stage games, including one over Arkhangai, the tournament's second seed and the eventual champion.

Pool B stage results:

Team 1 Score Team 2
Punjab Steelers 15-21 Taipei Bears
Punjab Steelers 22-21 Arkhangai
Punjab Steelers 21-14 Askar

The Steelers progressed to the semifinals of the tournament with a comfortable 21-15 win in the quarterfinals against the Colombo Lions.

However, in the semifinals, they went down 16-21 to Ashgabat from Turkmenistan.

They came up agonizing close to finishing third, however, a 19-21 loss in the third-place classification game against the Kuala Lumpur Tigers from Malaysia meant they finished 4th in the tournament's final standings.

Given the difficult circumstances (as per Amjyot Singh above), it could be considered a huge achievement for a seventh-seeded team to finish fourth.

Women's results:

The Stars' roster included the likes of Geethu Anna Rahul, Smruthi Radhakrishnan, Surya P R and Sonumol Soman.

Pool B stage results:

Team 1 Score Team 2
Kochi Stars 13-21 Top Star
Kochi Stars 17-11 Manfaanu

After a loss in their opening game to the top-seeded Top Star, the Stars bounced back with a 17-11 win against Manfaanu.

That win helped them qualify to the quarterfinals, where they came up short against the 12th seeded Kuala Lumpur Tigers.
