FIBA 3X3 U18 Asia Cup 2019: India Girls qualify to the quarter finals

On Day 2, August 23, of the FIBA 3X3 U18 Asia Cup, Pool games for Pool C and Pool D in the women's tournament were scheduled in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.

The Indian girls, who qualified to the Main Draw by going unbeaten through three games in the Qualifying Draw, were grouped with New Zealand and Turkmenistan in Pool C.

In their first game in the Main Draw, the girls absolutely dominated third-seeded Turkmenistan by defeating them 21-4.

In Game 2 against New Zealand, who were the tournament's sixth seed, the Indian girls lost in a 14-16 close contest.

With the loss, India's qualification to the quarterfinals depended on the final Pool game between New Zealand and Turkmenistan.

New Zealand cruised past Turkmenistan 21-4, thus qualifying to the quarterfinals as the top seed of the Pool. In the process, they also ensured India's qualification to the knockout stages as the second seed from Pool C.

In the quarterfinals, India is set to play the tournament's top-seed China on 24th August at 10:30 AM IST.
