With the 2020 NBA Finals, the NBA's five-year broadcast deal with Sony Pictures Networks (SPN) expired and with no suitable offer on the horizon, NBA League Pass had become the one-stop-shop for NBA fans in India since the beginning of the 2020-21 season.

NBA games made a brief return to the television when Star Sports bagged the rights, however, this deal was only for the 2021 NBA playoffs and the 2021 NBA Finals.

Over the first month of the 2021-22 season, NBA League Pass was once again the only place fans in India could watch live games on-demand. Fortunately, following December, that will not be the case anymore.
