Report: Minnesota Timberwolves trade Jimmy Butler to Philadelphia 76ers

Per multiple reports, the Jimmy Butler era in Minnesota is over.

According to Jon Krawczynski and Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Philadelphia 76ers have acquired the four-time All-Star from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In return, the Timberwolves will get Robert Covington, Dario Saric and Jerryd Bayless, as well as a 2022 second-round draft pick. Justin Patton, who was selected with the No. 16 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, is also included in the deal.

Butler requested a trade from the Timberwolves before the season began. He appeared in 10 games for Minnesota, averaging 21.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.4 steals per contest.

The Timberwolves have lost five straight games, putting them ahead of only the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns in the Western Conference standings.

The 76ers, meanwhile, have gotten off to a slower start than expected. With Butler, Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, however, they will have the firepower to compete in the Eastern Conference.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Butler and the 76ers are expected to reach a deal on a long-term contract in the summer.
