Las Vegas Aces honour Becky Hammon with halftime jersey retirement ceremony

The accolades for Becky Hammon keep coming.

On Monday (ET), the Las Vegas Aces - formerly the San Antonio Silver Stars - paid tribute to the WNBA legend by retiring her No. 25.

The franchise had already retired her jersey at AT&T Center in 2016 but this tribute ensures her jersey hangs up at the Michelob Ultra Arena at Mandalay Bay.

The current assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs played the final eight seasons of her 16-year WNBA career for the franchise.

"Becky Hammon played a huge part in the history of our franchise before it moved to Las Vegas," said Aces President Nikki Fargas in the team's official release, "As we've continued to celebrate the 25th season of the WNBA, we wanted to officially recognise her retired jersey here at Mandalay Bay."

"Every one of the players who suited up for this team, in Las Vegas, San Antonio, or Utah, is always going to be a part of our Aces family, and we are looking forward to celebrating her tremendous career in front of our fans next Monday."

Hammon remains the franchise career leader in assists (1,333), made three-pointers (498), and free throw percentage (92.1%). She ranks second in points (3,474) and scoring average (15.6) and fourth in three-point field goal percentage (38.8%).

Hammon was recently named to the league's 'W25', a collection of the 25 greatest and most influential players in WNBA history. She was also previously named to the league's Top 20@20 in 2016 and Top 15 Players of All Time in 2011.

Over the course of her WNBA career, the 5-foot-6 point guard was named to six All-Star teams and four All-NBA Teams (2 x First Team, 2 x Second Team). However, it could be argued that she has been on a more influential trailblazing path after her playing career.

Into her eighth season with the San Antonio Spurs coaching staff, Hammon is the longest active and all-time serving female assistant coach in the NBA.

During the 2020-21 season, she became the first woman in NBA history to coach a regular-season game when she took charge following Gregg Popovich's ejection in a Spurs' home game against the Lakers.
