Los Angeles Lakers Anthony Davis nears return to court

Los Angeles Lakers star big man, Anthony Davis has been cleared for full contact activity.

Head coach Frank Vogel told reporters the news before the Lakers 121-113 loss to the Boston Celtics at Staples Center.

Davis has now missed 28 games with calf/achilles injury, with Vogel saying it is "unlikely" the long-awaited return will happen in the next two games.

On return, Davis will be under a minutes restriction, as the team will hope to ramp up his playing time ahead of the rapidly approaching postseason.

"Whenever it is that he returns, it's not going to be a full return to playing 30-something minutes a night. Especially with the nature of practice and how shorthanded we are, he's going to have to use some games to try to get himself back in shape," Vogel said. "So the first two games he's back will likely be short-minute performances."

"He's eager to get back out. That's the biggest thing. He's tired of being a patient and ready to be a player again. So, he's eager to get to work in real practice the next few days -- live work -- and even more eager to get back on the floor, and obviously that's going to give our whole group a big lift."

Los Angeles currently hold a 34-22 record and sit in the fifth seed in the Western Conference, just 1.5 games back of Denver for home court in the first round of the playoffs.

The Lakers have posted a 13-15 record without Davis, who is averaging 22.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game on the season.
