Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis: Retiring without ring would be 'one of my biggest failures'

Anthony Davis has racked up an impressive list of individual accolades in his seven seasons in the NBA, but he says retiring without a title would be "one of [his] biggest failures."

Davis only reached the playoffs twice in his time with the New Orleans Pelicans, but his offseason trade to the Los Angeles Lakers should see him appear regularly on the postseason stage.

Speaking on ESPN's podcast 'That's What She Said with Sarah Spain,' Davis made it clear he won't be satisfied until he has a championship ring on his finger.

"Obviously, at the end of my career, if I don't win a championship that would be, I would feel that's one of my biggest failures," Davis said.

"But right now, I still have a lot to do in this world on and off the court. So I don't feel like I've failed in anything. I think I just continue to do it over until I succeed at it."

Davis' title-or-nothing point of view is shared by his new general manger Rob Pelinka.

"For us anything short of a championship is not success," Pelinka said at Davis' introductory press conference earlier this month.

"We have to learn from last season, because we didn't win a championship."

The Lakers overhauled their roster after finishing the 2018/19 campaign with a 37-45 record, 11 games behind the eight-seed Los Angeles Clippers.

Despite his lack of postseason success in New Orleans, Davis averaged 23.7 points and 10.5 rebounds on his way to six All-Star selections and three All-NBA nods.
