NBA Playoffs 2019: Ben Simmons says the 76ers need to treat Kawhi Leonard like Giannis and 'get the ball out of his hands'

Kawhi Leonard put on a show on both ends in Game 1, pouring in a playoff career-high 45-point to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 108-95 win over the Philadephia 76ers.

The 76ers struggled to contain him all night as he worked his way to the basket with ease, knocking down jumper after jumper against Tobias Harris and Jimmy Butler.

While Ben Simmons did have some success contesting Leonard's shots, the 76ers point guard said post-game that they will have to make some adjustments for Game 2 to limit his effectiveness on the offensive end.

"I don't think we showed enough help," Simmons said. "I think as a team we have to treat him similar to Giannis [Antetokounmpo], come over a little bit more and try and get the ball out of his hands.

"Downhill he's one of those guys that can get a bucket easily and he's a physical guy so in terms of that, we've just got to do a better job.

"We just gotta get better, watch film, we'll go over the game tomorrow and try and get better and fix a few things."

With Leonard and Pascal Siakam (29 points) combining to outscore Philly's starting five 74-71, the 76ers will need a big bounce-back game the likes of Harris and Butler on offence as well as Embiid, who was held to just 16 points on the night, with Simmons telling reporters they must do a better job of getting him involved early.

"I think just finding him a little bit earlier into the game, making sure he gets open seals, whatever it is and getting him the ball where he wants it," he added. "But overall as a team, we just gotta move the ball. We can't be too stagnant, we gotta move, keep cutting and play as a team."
