Nikola Jokic and Kemba Walker were named Players of the Week

The NBA announced the Players of the Week for opening week. Nikola Jokic took home honours in the Western Conference while Kemba Walker was given the honour in the Eastern Conference.

Nikola Jokic

Led by Jokic, the Denver Nuggets are perhaps the top story of the first week after a 3-0 start that included a thrilling last second win over the defending champion Golden State Warriors.

The 23-year old centre was nothing short of dominant, averaging 26.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game on an efficient 63% shooting from the floor. He's been incredibly efficient, leading the Nuggets in scoring while ranking just third on his own team in FG attempts.

This is the third time he's won Player of the Week after taking home the honour twice last season.

Jokic is picking up right where he left off after ending last season on a tear. Over his final 18 games of 2017-18, Jokic averaged 24.0 points, 11.5 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game.

Kemba Walker

Walker led the NBA in scoring during opening week, pumping in 35.3 points per game. He was sensational in a losing effort to open the season, dropping 41 in a one-point loss to the Bucks, the most points in franchise history in a season opener.

He's been the hottest shooter in the league to start the season, averaging an NBA-high 6.3 makes per game while hitting 50% of his shots from beyond the arc.
