Per ESPN.com's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Phoenix Suns are "leaning toward promoting James Jones to full-time General Manager."

Suns owner Robert Sarver fired their previous General Manager, Ryan McDonough, on Sunday night just nine days before the Suns regular season opener. Following the decision, he announced Jones and assistant GM Trevor Bukstein will share interim GM duties for the time-being.

Jones was serving under the title of Vice President of Basketball Operations prior to Sunday's announcement.

Jones and Bukstein's first order of operations was clearing out some of McDonough's staff, including an assistant GM's, the Director of Scouting, Director of International Scouting and the G-League GM.

Wojnarowski stated that Jones "has already started work on assembling his own scouting staff" per league sources.

Jones had a 14-year career in the NBA which included three NBA championships alongside LeBron James. The Suns hired Jones as the VP of Basketball Operations in July of 2017 after he had announced his retirement as a player.

Phoenix opens the season on Wednesday, October 17 against the Dallas Mavericks.
