Report: Cleveland Cavaliers to acquire Lauri Markkanen from Chicago Bulls in three team sign-and-trade

It appears as though Lauri Markkanen is no longer a free agent.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Cleveland Cavaliers are acquiring Markkanen from the Chicago Bulls in a sign-and-trade that also involves the Portland Trail Blazers.

The full details: Chicago will reportedly receive Derrick Jones Jr., a lottery protected 2022 pick from the Trail Blazers and a protected 2023 second-round pick via the Denver Nuggets from the Cavaliers, Portland will get Larry Nance Jr. and Cleveland will acquire Markkanen.

The No. 7 pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Markkanen was one of the best free agents remaining in this class.

Markkanen was named to the All-Rookie First Team in 2018 and averaged a career-best 18.7 points and 9.0 rebounds on .430/.361/.872 shooting splits as a sophomore. In the two seasons since, he's averaged 14.2 points and 5.8 rebounds, though injuries have limited him to a total of 101 games.

Jones joins the Bulls following one season with the Trail Blazers, in which he averaged 6.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 0.9 blocks and 0.6 steals in 58 games (43 starts).

Nance was one of the most disruptive defenders in the league last season, averaging the third-most steals per game (1.7) and fourth-most deflections per game (3.4). He has the potential to make a big difference on a Portland team that ranked 29th in defensive efficiency in 2020-21.
