The Golden State Warriors could be set to receive a huge boost to their championship aspirations, with DeMarcus Cousins reportedly on track to make a shock return from injury, according to Marc Stein of the New York Times.

Cousins has been sidelined since April 15 after suffering a torn quad in Game 2 of their first-round series against the Los Angeles Clippers, with initial reports suggesting he would be sidelined for the entirety of the playoffs.

An early return for cousins would provide a big boost for the Warriors, who are still sweating on the health of Kevin Durant, who suffered a right calf strain in Game 5, with a timeline for his return still unclear.

With the Warriors advancing to the Western Conference Finals after beating the Houston Rockets in six games, they will await the result of Game 7 between the Portland Trail Blazers and Denver Nuggets to find out who their opponent will be, with the first game of the series set for Wednesday 15 May.

In 30 regular season games, Cousins averaged 16.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.5 blocks in 25.7 minutes.
