Report: Los Angeles Lakers planning to waive DeMarcus Cousins

Shortly after reports surfaced that Markieff Morris had reached a buyout agreement with the Detroit Pistons, the Los Angeles Lakers firmed as the likely destination for the veteran forward.

The only question that remained would be which current Laker would be waived to make available to neccessary roster spot for Morris.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that the player on the way out will be four-time All-Star, DeMarcus Cousins.

The news is a continuation of a difficult stretch for Cousins, starting back in January 2018, when a torn achilles would see him miss the final 34 games of the 2017-18 regular season with New Orleans.

Cousins would then continue his recovery with the Golden State Warriors, playing 30 regular season and eight playoff games before a serious quad injury would end his campaign prematurely.

The now 29-year-old would go on to sign with the Lakers in the offseason, before tearing his ACL in August, an injury that has prevented him from suiting up in the purple and gold this season.

Holding career averages of 21.2 points and 10.9 rebounds, Cousins has been a dominant figure on the floor when healthy over the course of his career.

The Lakers currently hold the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference with a record of 41-12.
