Tyronn Lue and Doc Rivers have history.

Three of the Lue's four full years of experience as an assistant in the league have come on Rivers' staff with the Boston Celtics (2011-13) and LA Clippers (2013-14).

New York Times' Marc Stein reported last week about Lue and the Clippers working on a deal, one that now seems to be confirmed, as per The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Charania also reported that Lue and the Lakers failed to come to an agreement on a contract in May.

He rejoins the coaching circles after being fired as the Cavaliers head coach six games (0-6 record) into the 2018-19 season.

Having said that, Lue has achieved quite a bit in his short 2.5 years as a head coach, a position he was promoted to from an assistant with the Cleveland Cavaliers following the firing of David Blatt in January of 2016.

Leading a supremely talented team, Lue made a lot of history that season.

In 2015-16, he became the first coach in NBA history to win his first 10 playoff games and joined a short list of coaches that led their team to the Finals after only taking charge midseason. He also became the head coach for the Eastern Conference All-Stars in the 2016 All-Star Game.

When the Cavaliers completed the historic 3-1 comeback against the Golden State Warriors in the 2016 NBA Finals, Lue became the second rookie head coach in two years to win the title, the third (after Paul Westhead and Pat Riley) to win after taking charge midseason and the 14th to win it as a player and coach.

As a head coach, Lue has a 128-83 (.607) record in the regular season and a 41-20 (.672) record in the postseason.

The Clippers, after adding Kawhi Leonard and Paul George to their roster in the offseason, are among the title favourites for the upcoming season.
