Tokyo Olympics: United States Women, Latvian Men win first-ever 3x3 gold medals

History has been made.

The 2020 Olympics in Tokyo mark the first-ever Olympic Games in which 3x3 basketball is an Olympic sport, and the first-ever medalists have been crowned, with the United States Women's and Latvian Men's Teams taking home the gold.

Women's 3x3 basketball medalists

  1. United States – Gold
  2. ROC – Silver
  3. China – Bronze

Led by head coach Kara Lawson, the United States 3x3 team, a group featuring WNBA stars Stefanie Dolson, Allisha Gray, Kelsey Plum and Jackie Young, defeated the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) in the gold medal game.

Prior to the gold medal game, China defeated France to take home the bronze medal.

Men's 3x3 basketball medalists 

  1. Latvia – Gold
  2. ROC – Silver
  3. Serbia – Bronze

The Latvian 3x3 team became the first-ever 3x3 men's gold medalists with a 21-18 victory over the ROC. Latvia's team featured Agnis Cavaris, Edgars Krumins, Karlis Lasmanis and Nauris Miezis.

The bronze medal game saw Serbia defeat Belgium 21-10 for a third-place finish in the tournament.
