How about some early hoops?

After an impressive opening win over the Los Angeles Lakers Saturday, the Toronto Raptors continued their seeding game schedule with an early afternoon win over the Miami Heat on Monday.

4:15 p.m. – Final stats:

Fred VanVleet leads the way with a career-high 36 points while Pascal Siakam added 22 and Serge Ibaka scored 15 off the bench.

Miami was led by 25 points from reserve guard Goran Dragic while Kelly Olynyk added off the bench and starters Jimmy Butler and Jae Crowder scored 16 points apiece.

4:12 p.m. – Kyle Lowry guards Jimmy Butler on the block, forcing a turnover as an active Fred VanVleet deflects a pass intended for Goran Dragic.

Pascal Siakam is fouled and sinks both free throws and it appears the Raptors will open their time in Orlando with two wins.

4:10 p.m. – Marc Gasol is fouled and splits the pair of free throws.

Toronto leads 103-101 with 14.9 remaining. 

Timeout Heat, who will advance the ball after the break.

4:09 p.m. – The call has been overturned.

Raptors ball with a 102-101 lead and 17.4 seconds on the clock.

4:07 p.m. – The Heat draw up a play to set up a cutting Jimmy Butler but Goran Dragic's pass sails out of bounds after an apparent deflection.

The ruling on the floor is Miami ball but the play is under review as it appears the ball touched Butler last.

17.0 seconds remain in regulation.

4:05 p.m. – Kyle Lowry fails to convert after driving to the rim and the Heat corral the miss.

After bringing the ball into the frontcourt, Miami signals for a timeout.

Toronto leads 102-101 with 22.1 seconds remaining in regulation.

4:02 p.m. – After Keylloy Olynyk draws an offensive foul on Fred VanVleet, Goran Dragic gets the hoop and harm to make it a one-point game.

Dragic fails to complete the 3-point play, marking the Heat's first missed free throw of the game.

The Raptors lead 102-101 with 41.0 seconds left in regulation. Timeout on the floor.

4:01 p.m. – Jae Crowder sinks a 3 on the ensuing possession to make it a one-possession game.

102-99 Toronto with under a minute remaining.

4:00 p.m. – NEW CAREER HIGH ALERT.

Fred VanVleet steps to the line to sink to free throws, bringing his total up to 36 in the game.

Toronto leads 102-96.

3:58 p.m. – Toronto commits its 20th turnover of the game, leaving the door open for Miami.

It's still 100-96 but we're under two minutes in regulation.

3:54 p.m. – Kyle Lowry sinks two more free throws to bring his total for the game up to 14 points and give Toronto a four-point lead.

Timeout on the floor. 

The Raptors lead 100-96 with under four minutes remaining in regulation.

3:47 p.m. – Serge Ibaka. Again.

A dunk from the Original Man makes it a 9-0 run for the Raptors, who lead 98-92 with 6:10 left in regulation.

3:45 p.m. – A flagrant foul is called on Kelly Olynyk, who brought Kyle Lowry to the ground with a swipe to the face.

After sinking both free throws, Serge Ibaka drives for two to put Toronto up four as we approach the midway point of the fourth.

3:40 p.m. – We're going back-and-forth.

Fred VanVleet ties his career-high with a triple to tie things up and Kyle Lowry puts the Raptors ahead after a driving layup is goaltended.

The lead was short lived as Jae Crowder hit a mid range jumper to tie things up.

On the ensuing possessions, Kelly Olynyk and Pascal Siakam traded 3s.

We're all tied up at 92 with under seven minutes to go in regulation.

3:34 p.m. – It's now a 10-0 extended run for the Heat, who have regained the lead.

A Goran Dragic 3-pointer gives him 21 points in the game and puts Miami up 87-84.

With 10:11 left in regulation, Nick Nurse signals for a timeout.

End of Third Quarter: Toronto Raptors 84, Miami Heat 79

3:30 p.m. – The offences seem to have found their stride in the third.

After trailing by as many as 17 points in the frame, Miami claws back to make it a five-point game courtesy of a tough finish from Goran Dragic at the buzzer. 

Dragic and Jimmy Butler lead the way for the Heat with 16 points apiece while Tyler Herro (10) and Kelly Olynyk (14) have also come up big off the bench.

For the Raptors, it's been all Fred VanVleet as he scored 18 points in the third frame to bring his total to 31 for the game, just three shy of his career-best scoring performance. We could be seeing a new high very soon.

Pascal Siakam is up to 17 points and Serge Ibaka is the Raptors other double-digit scorer with 11 through three quarters.

3:21 p.m. – Challenge unsuccessful…

Lowry heads to the bench as one of three Raptors with four fouls.

3:17 p.m. – Speaking of foul trouble…

Kyle Lowry has been whistled for an offensive foul, which would be his fourth of the game. Nick Nurse has signalled for a coach's challenge, meaning there's a timeout on the floor.

The Raptors lead 70-60  with 4:07 remaining in the quarter.

The foul is under review.

3:14 p.m. – Foul trouble update:

Both Marc Gasol and Pascal Siakam have picked up four fouls while Kyle Lowry still has three.

For Miami, Kendrick Nunn is the only player in foul trouble with four in the game.

3:11 p.m. – We've crossed the midway point of the third and Toronto is out to a 15-point lead.

The Raptors lead 70-55 with 5:56 remaining in the frame.

After scoreless first halves, Marc Gasol and OG Anunoby have each scored five points in the third quarter.

Anunoby is set to step to the line after an official review.

2:59 p.m. – The Raptors have taken command.

After quick 13-4 run to start the third quarter, Toronto is out to a 61-48 lead.

Erik Spoelstra has signalled for a timeout with 8:50 remaining in the third.

It's been Fred VanVleet's game as leads all scorers with 21 points on 5-for-9 shooting from the field (4-for-7 from deep) and 7-for-7 shooting from the line. Toronto is now shooting 45.0% from the field while Miami is shooting just 36.7% from the field and 20.0% from deep.

2:53 p.m. – The second half gets underway as OG Anunoby sinks a corner triple for his first points of the game.

2:38 p.m. – One half down, one half to go as Toronto takes a four-point lead into the break.

As expected, it's been a showcase for the defences as the Heat were held to 39.5% shooting from the field while the Raptors shot 40.5% in the half. Toronto has the advantage from the perimeter as its shot 9-for-21 (42.9%) while Miami shot just 5-for-23 (21.7%).

Pascal Siakam leads all scorers with 15 points while Fred VanVleet isn't too far behind with 13 points. After slow openers, Serge Ibaka and Norman Powell have come off the bench to score seven points apiece.

Kelly Olynyk leads the Heat with 11 points off the bench while the All-Star duo of Jimmy Butler (eight points) and Bam Adebayo (six points) have combined to score 14.

2:29 p.m.  – We've reached another break in the action as there's a timeout on the floor.

Toronto leads 44-39 with 2:27 left in the half.

Fred VanVleet will step to the free throw line after the break for a chance to get the lead back up to seven.

2:23 p.m. – Kyle Lowry picks up his third foul with 5:04 remaining in the second and this might be the last we've seen of him in the first half.

The Raptors have been the first to find their 3-point stroke as they're now shooting 9-for-20 (45.0%) from deep while the Heat are shooting 4-for-17 (23.5%).

Toronto leads 42-37 with under four minutes to go in the half.

2:20 p.m. – Ok… is there anything Lowry can't do?!


2:17 p.m. – It's been the Kyle Lowry quarter so far…more specifically, this most recent segment of play.


After drawing the charge, Lowry draws a shooting foul and sinks both free throws. On the ensuing possession, he sinks a transition three to make it five consecutive points. He now has six points, three boards, two assists and a steal in the game.

Timeout Miami as Toronto leads 33-26 with 7:36 remaining in the half.

2:15 p.m. – Tell me if you've heard this before: Kyle Lowry put his body on the line to take a charge.

This one brings his league-leading total to 32 this season.

End of First Quarter: Toronto Raptors 23, Miami Heat 17

2:03 p.m. – One quarter is in the books as the Raptors use an 8-0 run to take a six-point lead into the second.

After struggling in his first outing, Pascal Siakam has stepped up to the challenge. He leads the way with 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field, including 3-for-5 from deep.  It's the 17th time this season that Siakam has hit three or more triples in a game – Toronto is 14-2 in the previous 16.

Otherwise, the defensive battle continues. Miami finished the first frame shooting 34.8% from the field while Toronto shot 33.3%.

1:58 p.m. – With 2:29 left in the first, Miami leads 17-15.

Timeout on the floor.

It could be the early tip but the offences have yet to get going as the Raptors (5-for-16) and Heat (6-for-15) are shooting a combined 11-for-31 early on.

Pascal Siakam leads all scorers with eight points while Jae Crowder and Jimmy Butler lead Miami with six points apiece.

1:56 p.m. – Hello!

After a quiet opener in Orlando, Norman Powell brings the noise with this finish early on.

1:51 p.m. – If you were expecting a defensive battle, we've got one early on.

At the first timeout, Toronto is shooting 2-for-8 (25.0%) from the field while Miami is 3-for-9 (33.3%).

1:49 p.m. – We've reached our first break in the action as the Heat lead 9-7 with 6:37 remaining in the opening frame.

Jimmy Butler leads all scorers as he has six of Miami's nine while Pascal Siakam leads the way for Toronto with five points on 2-for-2 shooting.

1:43 p.m. – Kendrick Nunn finds a cutting Jimmy Butler for a layup to get the Heat on the board first.

Pascal Siakam responds on the ensuing possesion with a corner 3.
