Trae Young ties career-high with 49 points, but Atlanta Hawks come up short in OT against Indiana Pacers

Atlanta dropped to 4-15 on the season with an 105-104 overtime loss against Indiana, though, it took an extra period for the Pacers to quieten the young Hawks.

The main reason for the overtime period was the Hawks' 21-year-old point guard, Trae Young.

The electric scorer unloaded to drop an equal career-high 49 points, including 21 in the fourth and another eight in the extra period..

The second-year guard finished 16-for-28 from the field and 8-for-15 from beyond the arc in an extremely efficient night. He also added six assists on a night where he was the only Atlanta starter to reach double-digit scoring.

Despite the Hawks poor record, Young is having a sensational start to the season, averaging 26.7 points and 8.6 assists coming into tonight. He has seen a spike in his shooting percentages from all areas and is getting to the free-throw line 2.1 more times per game than in his rookie season.

The outburst against the Pacers was Young's ninth 30+ point outing in 19 games and his second 40+ game as he continues to put his name among the early contenders for Most Improved Player.

In stark contrast to the one-man show with the Hawks, Indiana's scoring was typically balanced, with all five starters topping ten points.

While Young stole the show individually, the win was an important one for the Pacers who now move to 12-6 on the season, good for sixth in the Eastern Conference for a roster that continues to round itself into full health.
