WNBA star Kristi Toliver set to join Dallas Mavericks coaching staff

The Dallas Mavericks are set to make an addition to Jason Kidd's coaching staff ahead of the 2021-22 season.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski has reported that WNBA star Kristi Toliver will take an assistant coaching role with the Mavericks.

Currently playing with the Los Angeles Sparks, Toliver's playing career shouldn't impact her abiity to join the Mavericks for the upcoming season. 

Toliver confirmed the new role via Twitter.

"Thank you all for the love and support entering this new journey. So thankful for this opportunity and can’t wait to get to work."

The 34-year-old guard is a 3-time All-Star and 2-time Champion in the league, and is contracted with the Sparks until the end of the 2022 season.

Previously playing with the Washington Mystics, Toliver spent time with the Washington Wizards coaching staff from 2018-20, in which she became the first contracted WNBA player to coach in the NBA.

Toliver is averaging 12.2 points and 3.5 assists per game with LA in 2021.
